Construction of the new United States Consulate General in Lagos has reached another major milestone following the completion of the final concrete pour at the site.

The U.S. Mission in Nigeria announced the development in a post on X, saying Deputy Assistant Secretary Richard Michaels oversaw the final bucket of concrete poured at the project site.

The mission described the development as “One step closer to a new U.S. Consulate General in Lagos.”

It said the milestone was achieved through the joint efforts of American and Nigerian engineers working together on the construction of the facility.

The mission said the project represents more than the development of a new diplomatic facility, describing the building as a lasting symbol of the relationship between the United States and Nigeria and their growing commercial ties.

According to the U.S. Mission, the buildings were designed and constructed to meet the highest standards.

“The buildings meet the highest standards for design and construction, embodying what our two nations can achieve together,” it said.

The latest construction milestone marks continued progress on the new consulate project, which is expected to provide a modern facility for the United States’ diplomatic operations in Lagos.

The U.S. Mission also highlighted the role of collaboration between American and Nigerian professionals in delivering the project, with engineers from both countries working side-by-side throughout the construction process.
