The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has suspended its Chairman and Public Relations Officer in Albasu Constituency, Kano State, over alleged abuse of office and other issues concerning their official duties.
The affected officials are Bashir Safiyanu Mai Daura, the constituency chairman, and Naziru Ibrahim, the Public Relations Officer.
Following the suspension, the party appointed Adamu Ɗan Atan as interim chairman and Kabiru Adamu as interim PRO to oversee the constituency pending the outcome of an investigation.
The suspension was contained in a notice presented to the affected officials by Hudu Sabo Albasu, the NDC Welfare Secretary in Albasu Local Government Area and coordinator of the Obi/Kwankwaso movement in the area.
According to the notice, more than 30 party executives and members endorsed the suspension, which will remain in effect until an investigation into the allegations is concluded.
The interim officials are expected to oversee the party’s affairs in the constituency for three months or until the investigative committee submits its report, whichever comes first.
However, the notice did not disclose the specific allegations against Mai Daura and Ibrahim.
Their suspension is therefore subject to the outcome of the investigation, which will determine whether they will retain their positions.
The action is limited to the Albasu Constituency and does not affect the wider Kano State or national leadership structures of the NDC, according to the notice.
