A passenger has died after suffering a medical emergency on board a Kenya Airways flight from Nairobi, Kenya, to Lagos, Nigeria.

Kenya Airways, in a statement issued by its Corporate Communications department on Wednesday, said the incident occurred on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at about 9:20 pm Nigerian time.

According to a statement from the airline on Wednesday, the passenger became unresponsive about 20 minutes before the aircraft landed at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

“Kenya Airways PLC (“KQ”) confirms that on Tuesday, 06 October 2026, our flight from Nairobi to Lagos experienced a medical emergency on board at around 21:20 hrs local Nigerian time. One of our passengers was found to be unresponsive approximately 20 minutes before landing in Lagos. Our crew administered first aid as per their training and followed all emergency procedures. Upon landing at Murtala Muhammed International Airport at 21:41 hrs, the aircraft was met by medical personnel, and upon further examination, the medical personnel confirmed that the passenger had passed away,” read part of the statement.

Kenya Airways expressed condolences to the family and friends of the deceased, adding that it was providing necessary support in coordination with the family, local authorities and aviation regulators.

The airline also said it was respecting the privacy and dignity of all those involved.
