The Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA) has directed member insurance companies to prioritise and expedite the settlement of valid claims arising from the Nigerian Air Force aircraft crash near Igbokoda in Ondo State.

The association, which expressed condolences to the families of the victims, said the insurance industry was prepared to fulfil its obligations and provide financial support to beneficiaries affected by the tragedy.

The NAF aircraft crashed near Igbokoda on Monday, October 5, 2026, killing personnel and crew members on board.

Chairman of the NIA, Mrs Ebelechukwu Nwachukwu, described the incident as a profound loss to the country and extended condolences to President Bola Tinubu, the Chief of Air Staff, the Armed Forces and the wider aviation community.

She also commiserated with the families of the victims, describing their deaths as an “irreparable blow to our national security framework”.

“These courageous individuals devoted their lives to safeguarding the sovereignty, peace, and security of our homeland. Their service and ultimate sacrifice will remain permanently etched in our national memory,” Nwachukwu said.

She said the insurance sector would work to ensure that beneficiaries receive the financial support due to them without unnecessary administrative delays.

“The Nigerian Insurance Industry stands fully prepared to honour its obligations,” she said.

“Member companies have been directed to prioritise, expedite, and seamlessly process all valid claims connected to this incident, ensuring that the families of our fallen heroes receive the full financial support and benefits to which they are entitled without administrative delay.”

The NIA also extended its condolences to the Federal Government, military leadership and aviation authorities, while praying for strength and comfort for the bereaved families.
