The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Australian Federal Police (AFP) to strengthen cooperation in tackling cybercrime and other transnational financial crimes.

The agreement is expected to deepen collaboration between both law enforcement agencies through intelligence sharing, improved investigations, professional development and capacity building.

The EFCC said the partnership would strengthen its ability to respond to increasingly sophisticated criminal networks operating across international borders.

Highlighting the importance of the agreement, the EFCC chairman said criminal activities were no longer confined by national boundaries, requiring law enforcement agencies to adopt equally coordinated responses.

“Through this partnership, we will deepen intelligence sharing, strengthen investigations, promote professional development and build our capacity to stay ahead of evolving threats,” he said.

He expressed appreciation to the Australian Government and the AFP for their continued confidence in the EFCC.

The EFCC chairman also commended officers recognised for their exceptional professionalism and dedication to duty.

He stressed that international cooperation remained critical to disrupting criminal networks and improving the effectiveness of law enforcement agencies.

“When criminals network across borders, law enforcement agencies must do the same,” he said.
