Singer Cynthia Morgan has backed music star Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P, amid his latest family rift, saying many entertainers suffer emotional pain in silence until they reach a breaking point and are forced to speak out.

The singer made the remarks in a post shared on her Instagram page on Friday while responding to claims that Peter’s emotions had become “destructive.”

Drawing from her own experience in the music industry, Morgan argued that many artistes are trained to place their careers above their emotional well-being, often suppressing the effects of heartbreak, grief, abuse and the intense pressures that come with fame.

“I read somewhere that Peter’s emotions are destructive. Now here is my take on this and I am speaking from experience,” she wrote.

She maintained that what many people describe as destructive behaviour is sometimes the result of years of emotional repression.

“As an artiste, most of us are conditioned to always put our craft over anything. Love, grief, abuse, pressure etc. So when you see an artiste that you think has become destructive, just know they’ve maxed out and can no longer pretend, and until they vent or go to therapy, they will never be normal,” she stated.

Morgan also reflected on the personal sacrifices entertainers make to attain success, noting that musicians from an earlier generation worked under greater pressure because their public identities were deliberately shrouded in secrecy.

“Artistes sacrifice so much to be the people you admire. These new artistes might have it easier because we are in an internet age and people are less judgmental, but the older ones, and especially if you come from the P-Square circle, some of our brands were built on mystery. You think you know us, but you don’t,” she added.

In the caption accompanying the post, the singer offered words of encouragement to Peter.

“The Lord is close to the broken-hearted #peterpsquare. I wish you peace and salvation.”

Morgan’s comments come against the backdrop of the renewed rift between Peter Okoye and his elder brother and former manager, Jude Okoye, as both men continue to trade accusations over the management of P-Square’s business affairs and lingering family disagreements.
