The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano Strategic Command, has launched a major anti-drug operation codenamed “Operation Sharar Mafaka”, leading to the arrest of 52 suspects across Kano.
The operation, which began on April 27, 2026, targeted over 20 identified drug hotspots within the metropolis.
According to a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, operatives carried out coordinated raids in areas including Filin Idi, Tashar Rami, Fagge, Abattoir, and Farm Centre, where 15 suspects were initially arrested.
Further operations on April 28 extended to Hotoro Flyover, Mariri Park, Ramin Jirga Tishama, Yankaba Park, and Audu Bako Secretariat, resulting in the arrest of 16 additional suspects, including three women.
Later the same day, raids in Kwanar Ungogo, Titin Jajira, Tudun Bojuwa, and parts of Sabon Gari led to 21 more arrests, including one female suspect.
In total, 52 suspects,four of them women,were apprehended, while assorted illicit drugs, paraphernalia, and locally made weapons were recovered.
Speaking on the operation, the Commander of the Kano Strategic Command, CN DY Lawal, said the initiative is aimed at dismantling drug hubs and restoring order.
“We will dislodge criminal joints, arrest suspects, seize exhibits, and occupy premises until normalcy is restored. This is what we will continue to do under Operation Sharar Mafaka,” he said.
He also called on members of the public to support the agency’s efforts to rid communities of drug-related activities.
The NDLEA said the operation aligns with the broader agenda of its Chairman, Mohammed Buba Marwa, to achieve a drug-free society.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to sustained enforcement, community engagement, and collaboration with residents to combat illicit drug activities across the state.
