Bright Edafe, spokesperson of the Delta State Police Command, has strongly condemned the actions of a police officer, Nuhu Usman, who was seen in a viral video shooting a suspect.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Edafe described the incident as deeply disturbing and unlike anything he had personally witnessed in his years of service. He explained that even watching the video once was difficult for him, and he has avoided seeing it again because of how upsetting it is.
He shared that hearing the victim beg in the video has been particularly painful, noting that it reminds him that the victim could have been anyone’s family member. According to him, the situation is even more troubling because the victim might have been innocent and unaware of what he was carrying.
Edafe emphasized that the police do not support such behavior and made it clear that the officer involved has been sent to the Force Headquarters for disciplinary action.
In his words, “Whenever I hear that boy begging, I usually block my ears, because I keep hoping he will not shoot, even though it has already passed. It’s that bad because that’s somebody’s son.”
