As per a report from Leadership, on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, the PDP branch in Lagos State has refuted claims that the nomination documents for the upcoming 2027 elections were validly distributed by the faction endorsed by Wike. They referenced earlier court decisions and internal party agreements that influence the party’s leadership framework as justification for this lack of legal credibility.
In a statement from its press secretary, Christopher Odianarewo, the Lagos party leadership, led by Barr. Dr. Amos Fawole, asserted that the faction under Abdulrahman Mohammed and Samuel Anyanwu is operating beyond their legal authority.
To support its position, the Lagos PDP pointed to two past court decisions that confirmed the party’s choice to suspend and remove Senator Samuel Anyanwu: a ruling from the Court of Appeal dated March 9, 2026, and another from the FCT High Court dated January 12, 2026. The party maintains that these decisions are still applicable.
The statement asserts that Anyanwu can no longer represent the PDP following his expulsion. It further explains that any actions taken under his leadership, such as recognizing an alternative leadership group or a national working committee, are now invalid.
A Form 48 notice from the FCT High Court indicates ongoing judicial enforcement and reinforces adherence to previous rulings against specific individuals. The party also highlighted that the Abuja convention, conducted on March 29, 2026, under the questioned leadership, is void from the start as it originated from an illegal basis.
According to the Lagos PDP, party bodies and election officials cannot accept candidacy papers that were issued or endorsed by the disputed leadership.
“The Wike-backed PDP does not have the power to distribute nomination documents. Thus, any nomination papers provided or endorsed by Senator Anyanwu or under Abdulrahman Mohammed’s authority have no legal force,” he stated.
