In a recent statement via his official X account, human rights activist and lawyer Deji Adeyanju has shared his views on the political climate ahead of the 2027 elections, focusing on President Bola Tinubu and what he believes are the President’s main concerns as the next electoral cycle approaches.
”Tinubu only fears the North and northern leaders as far as 2027 is concerned. They are so scared northern Nigeria are planning to surprise him which is why all the fear of ADC. There is no one in southern Nigeria that worries him. He thinks the North want to give him GEJ treatment,” he wrote.
In his post, Adeyanju argued that the President is more worried about the North and its political leaders than any other region in the country and explained that, in his view, northern Nigeria holds significant political weight.
He suggested that there are ongoing plans among northern leaders that could challenge the President in the future, he believes this perceived threat is the reason for growing attention around the African Democratic Congress, according to him, the party is being closely watched because of its potential role in any political realignment ahead of 2027.
He pointed out that the southern part of Nigeria does not appear to pose the same level of concern to the President, he said the political atmosphere in the South seems less threatening from the President’s perspective and added that this difference in perception may influence political strategies and alliances as the election draws closer.
The activist further argued that the President may be reflecting on past political events in Nigeria, he referenced the experience of former President Goodluck Jonathan, who lost his re-election bid in 2015 and suggested that there is a belief that a similar political shift could happen again, especially if strong opposition emerges from the North.
