The British High Commission in Abuja has celebrated the 78th birthday of King Charles III, reaffirming the United Kingdom’s commitment to strengthening its strategic partnership with Nigeria.
The reception, held on Thursday under the theme, “GREAT Partners for the Future”, brought together Nigerian government officials, business leaders, diplomats and civil society representatives.
British High Commissioner, Pete Vowles, said the celebration provided an opportunity to recognise the longstanding relationship between both countries and the people sustaining it.
“The King’s Birthday is an opportunity not only to celebrate His Majesty, but also the remarkable relationship between the United Kingdom and Nigeria and the people who make that relationship thrive,” he said.
Vowles described the partnership as modern and forward-looking, noting that both countries were working together across trade, education, innovation, security and culture.
The celebration followed a significant year in bilateral relations, including the UK State Visit to Nigeria in March, which highlighted the strength of diplomatic and people-to-people ties.
According to the High Commission, bilateral trade between both countries has reached £7.3 billion, reflecting growing economic cooperation.
The UK-Nigeria Strategic Partnership also covers trade and investment, education, defence and security, migration and development.
The reception featured an art exhibition showcasing cultural connections between both countries and provided an opportunity for stakeholders to explore further areas of collaboration.
The High Commission said both countries remained committed to building on their longstanding relationship to create greater opportunities, prosperity and lasting benefits for their citizens.
