The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has engaged key stakeholders in the ethanol production industry as part of preparations for the implementation of its Pilot E10 Project.
The engagement, held on Friday, November 6, focused on the opportunities, requirements and collaborative efforts needed to introduce the petrol-ethanol blending initiative in Nigeria.
The Executive Director, Health, Safety, Environment and Community (HSEC), Dr Mustapha Lamorde, who chairs the E10 Project, represented the Authority Chief Executive, Mallam Rabiu A. Umar, and delivered the welcome remarks.
According to a statement published on the NMDPRA’s X handle, Lamorde stressed the importance of collaboration among industry players in establishing a sustainable framework for the project.

The statement said the meeting provided an opportunity for stakeholders to discuss “the development of Nigeria’s ethanol production capacity, the readiness of local producers and the necessary industry support systems required to facilitate the introduction of E10 fuel blending.”
It added that the engagement offered a platform for discussions on “the opportunities, requirements and collaborative efforts necessary to support the successful implementation of the initiative.”
The Pilot E10 Project involves blending 10 per cent ethanol with 90 per cent petrol, an initiative the Authority says could diversify Nigeria’s fuel supply options and create opportunities for domestic ethanol producers.
The NMDPRA said the project also has the potential to support the development of Nigeria’s biofuel industry and encourage the integration of locally produced ethanol into the country’s petroleum supply chain.
The Authority further reaffirmed its commitment to working with industry stakeholders to strengthen local production capacity, promote innovation and develop a sustainable midstream and downstream petroleum sector.
It said continued consultation and collaboration would be necessary to support the successful implementation of the project.
