Court Sentences Pastor To 200 Years Imprisonment Over Death Of 191 Members

A Kenyan court has sentenced self-proclaimed preacher Paul Nthenge Mackenzie to 200 years in prison over the deaths of 191 people, including 190 children, in the Shakahola massacre.

He received a 100-year sentence for the deaths of the children and another 100 years for the death of an adult. Mackenzie, founder of Good News International Church, was found guilty of leading followers into a deadly fasting regime that authorities said resulted in the deaths of believers and their children.

The case came to light in 2023 after investigators uncovered hundreds of bodies in mass graves in Shakahola Forest, near the coastal town of Malindi, shocking Kenya and drawing international attention. #DWAfrica
