The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed as fake a social media publication claiming it had reaffirmed the Senator David Mark-led leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The Commission said it did not issue any such reaffirmation, warning members of the public against relying on the publication circulating online.

In a statement on Friday, INEC said the poster, which emerged after Thursday’s court judgment invalidating the Mark-led leadership, did not originate from the Commission.

“The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) wishes to alert the public that a poster and accompanying text circulating on social media, claiming that the Commission has ‘reaffirmed’ a Senator David Mark-led leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), are fake,” the statement read.

The electoral body also condemned the unauthorised use of its logo and the image of its National Commissioner, Mohammed Haruna, in the publication.

“The said poster did not originate from the Commission. The use of INEC’s logo and the image of the National Commissioner, Mohammed Haruna, in the said publication is unauthorized,” it added.

INEC further stated that it had made no announcement endorsing or reaffirming the leadership, insisting: “For the avoidance of doubt, INEC has issued no such reaffirmation.”

The Commission urged Nigerians to disregard the publication and obtain information on its activities only from its verified communication platforms.

“Members of the public are therefore advised to disregard the publication in its entirety and to rely only on information from INEC’s official and verified channels,” the statement said.

TVC NEWS Online had earlier reported that the Federal High Court in Abuja has nullified the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) under Senator David Mark, invalidating all decisions and actions taken by the party’s caretaker committee.

The ruling also affects the nomination of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the ADC’s presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections.

Justice Peter Lifu, who delivered the judgement on Thursday, declared the Mark-led caretaker committee illegal, ruling against the process through which the committee assumed control of the party and conducted the presidential primary that produced Atiku.

In the judgment, Justice Lifu held that the Senator Mark-led executives, who nominated Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections, acted illegally.
