Members and supporters of the Rivers State chapter of the African Democratic Congress, ADC on Wednesday stormed the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC office in Port Harcourt.
The protesters are demanding the immediate removal of the INEC chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan over the commission’s role in the party’s leadership crisis.
Some of the members also accused the INEC boss of working for the All Progressives Congress, APC, citing the recent controversial X account linked to Amupitan.
The protesters were seen carrying banners with inscriptions such as “Liberty is won in the street, not granted by the Villa; one party, one grave, we refuse to bury our democracy, SaveNigeria”.
DAILY POST reports that the party has been staging protests in INEC facilities across the nation, calling for Amupitan’s resignation or sack.
INEC recently suspended the recognition of the David Mark-led ADC amid the leadership crisis in the party.
The commission was also conspicuously absent from the recently concluded ADC national convention held in the Federal Capital Territory.
