Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has inaugurated the Labour Party (LP) Campaign Council for the 2027 general elections, charging members to work with party structures and stakeholders at the grassroots to secure victory for the party.
In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Ukoha Njoku Ukoha, on October 5, 2026, Otti said the appointment of members was a call to service and urged them to work collectively with the party and its various structures.
Inaugurating the council at the Michael Okpara Auditorium, Umuahia, on Monday, Otti described the members as “best among equals,” stressing that their appointment was not an opportunity for anyone to assume superiority over others.
He said political campaigns in Nigeria are structured around political parties because independent candidacy is not yet permitted, directing all pro-groups of the party, including Abia Arise and campaign councils of individual candidates, to work together.
“Candidates must work with the leadership of the party and other stakeholders to achieve the objectives,” Otti said.
“You must work with the party’s pro-groups. The leadership for this campaign goes beyond people sitting here. Everybody is involved,” he stated.
The governor also urged candidates to constitute their own campaign councils, saying such structures would strengthen the party and improve its chances at the polls.
According to him, while the State Campaign Council would provide overall coordination, candidates and grassroots structures must take responsibility for mobilising support in their respective areas.
Otti charged the council to ensure that the 2027 campaign is issue-based, noting that the approach would differ from the 2023 campaign, which he said was largely characterised by promises.
He said the focus in 2027 should be on issues, achievements and programmes that matter to the people, while cautioning members against allowing opponents to distract them with propaganda.
The governor also warned against political violence, saying his administration had created a peaceful and open environment for political activities.
“If you get involved in Political Violence, You are on Your Own,” Otti warned.
“We have made this place peaceful and open. Violence will not be entertained. We are not going to tolerate violence,” he stated.
He added that security agencies had been directed to provide a level playing field for all political parties and candidates to campaign freely without intimidation or violence.
Otti further reminded members that their appointment was a call to service rather than an opportunity to exercise power over others.
He disclosed that the Campaign Council would be complemented by a Campaign Advisory Council to be chaired by former Deputy Governor of Abia State, Rt. Hon. Ude Oko Chukwu.
The governor expressed confidence that effective coordination, grassroots mobilisation, issue-based campaigning and cooperation among members and stakeholders would help the Labour Party achieve better results in the 2027 elections.
He therefore urged council members to return to their wards and local government areas to build effective grassroots structures from the polling units.
Responding on behalf of the newly inaugurated members, the Director-General of the council, Rt. Hon. Agwu U. Agwu, assured Otti that the council would work diligently to meet and exceed expectations.

Agwu pledged to deploy the collective experience and commitment of members to secure victory for the Labour Party, describing the assignment as a call to service for the people of Abia.
He stressed that the campaign was not about individuals but about consolidating the achievements of the Otti administration and building a stronger future for the state.
Also speaking in an interview, the Director of Publicity and Spokesman of the council, Barr. Onyebuchi Ememanka, said members would work collectively to deliver on their mandate.

“His Excellency is a good product to sell. We know that His Excellency is going to be re-elected; ours is just to provide institutional support and framework to carry out the campaigns,” Ememanka said.
“There is no space for violence. The campaigns will be issue-based. We shall resist any attempt to drag us down to that level. We shall run an issue-based campaign that reflects the personality of His Excellency,” he stated.
Ememanka thanked God for the opportunity to serve and expressed appreciation to Otti for the assignment.
The Campaign Council is chaired by Governor Otti, with Deputy Governor Ikechukwu Emetu as Vice Chairman.
Agwu U. Agwu is the Director-General, while other state directors include Eric Egwuibe as Director of Finance, Chibuzor Obiesili as Director of Strategy/Planning, Kelechi Nwaiwu, SAN, as Director of Legal, Onyebuchi Ememanka as Director of Publicity and Christian Anokwuru as Director of Special Duties.
AIG Arungwa Nwazue (Rtd.) is the Director of Security, while Helen Ego Okorie and Chizaram Philip Akpulonu are Directors of Women Affairs and Youth Affairs respectively.
The council also appointed zonal coordinators for Abia Central, Abia North and Abia South, alongside state constituency coordinators across the state.
