The Enugu State Police Command has arrested five male suspects and recovered three firearms, six rounds of live ammunition and other exhibits in separate operations across the state.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Daniel Ndukwe, on Thursday, October 8, 2026.

The statement said the arrests were made as part of the command’s “sustained proactive fight against violent crimes”, adding that the intelligence-led operations resulted in the recovery of three firearms, six rounds of live ammunition and other incriminating exhibits.

According to the police, operatives attached to Inyi Division, acting on a distress call concerning an armed robbery at Umuaor, Umukabia Isiama Awlaw Community, Oji-River Local Government Area, responded to the scene at about 5:10 a.m. on October 7.

The operation led to the arrest of 26-year-old Arinze Osita Onwuaso, while other suspects fled.

The statement said a locally made cut-to-size single-barrel gun, two live cartridges, a pry-bar, hammer, a pair of scissors and chisel were recovered from him.

Similarly, operatives attached to the Nsukka Sector of the Command’s Anti-Cultism Section of the Violent Crime Response Unit arrested two suspected cultists, Jonas Adejo, also known as J-Money, 24, and Okoro Innocent, also known as Virus, 25, at Umudioka Community, Nsukka, on October 5.

Three live rounds of 9mm ammunition were recovered from the suspects.

The police said the two suspects “confessed during interrogation to membership of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity.”

In another operation on September 25, operatives of Aninri Division, in collaboration with members of the Neighborhood Watch Group, raided a criminal hideout at Amagu Mpu Community, Aninri LGA.

The operation led to the arrest of 25-year-old Anichebe Ogbonna, while one locally made pistol was recovered from him.

The command also said operatives of 9th Mile Division, acting on information and in collaboration with Neighborhood Watch Group members, arrested 38-year-old Chukwujekwu Chukwuemeka at Ameke-Ngwo, Udi LGA, at about 11 p.m. on September 18.

Chukwuemeka was arrested for alleged involvement in armed robberies in the area, while one cut-to-size pump-action gun and one live cartridge were recovered from him.

The statement said, “Investigations are ongoing, and the arrested suspects will be arraigned in court upon conclusion of investigations.”

The Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, commended citizens for their support and the operatives for their prompt response to credible information which led to the arrests and recoveries.

He reiterated the command’s commitment to sustaining intelligence-led operations against armed robbery, cultism and other violent crimes across the state.

Giwa also urged citizens to “remain vigilant, law-abiding and supportive.”
