United Kingdom motorists can now check petrol and diesel prices on Google Maps and compare nearby filling stations before buying fuel.
Andy Burnham, in a statement on Thursday, October 8, said the move was aimed at helping motorists cope with rising fuel costs.
Burnham acknowledged concerns over the increasing cost of petrol and diesel, saying global events were contributing to the rise in prices.
“I know people are worried about fuel prices. And I get it. You get to the pump, watch the numbers climb, and wonder why it’s costing so much more than it used to,” he said.
“The reality is that global events are pushing up costs, and families here at home are feeling the impact.”

According to Burnham, motorists can now use Google Maps to view petrol and diesel prices at nearby stations and compare the available options before filling up.
“That’s why from today, you’ll be able to see petrol and diesel prices on Google Maps, compare nearby stations and find the cheapest option before you fill up,” he said.
He added that while the measure was relatively small, it could help motorists reduce their spending on fuel.
“It’s a small change, but if there’s a practical way to help people keep more money in their pocket, I’ll do it,” Burnham said.
The development comes amid rising fuel costs in the UK, with the average price of diesel reaching £2 per litre earlier in October for the first time.
The UK government said the Google Maps integration uses data from its Fuel Finder platform, which covers about 99% of fuel sold on UK roads and provides near real-time pump prices.
