Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to lead a high-level Nigeria-Ethiopia exchange aimed at strengthening nutrition delivery across Nigeria’s federal, state and local governments.

Shettima is attending the inaugural Nigeria-Ethiopia Nutrition Leadership Exchange Visit at the invitation of Ethiopia’s Deputy Prime Minister, Temesgen Tiruneh, who is championing the country’s multisectoral approach to improving nutrition.

The three-day engagement is designed to enable both countries to exchange experiences on building a coordinated government-led framework for nutrition delivery.

The Nigerian delegation will examine how Ethiopia has translated political commitment into practical nutrition interventions, with visits planned to agricultural and community-based initiatives.

The programme includes visits to a wheat farm and banana plantation in Oromia, the ‘Bounty of the Basket’ Training Centre and households in Mojo, as well as Jabdu Motors in Bishoftu.

The Nigerian delegation includes Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal and Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi.

Also accompanying the Vice President are the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu; Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari; and the Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency, Zubaida Umar Abubakar.

The exchange comes as Nigeria seeks to accelerate nutrition interventions at the sub-national level, following the launch of the Nutrition 774 Initiative aimed at driving coordinated action across the country’s 774 local government areas.

Shettima is expected to return to Abuja after concluding his engagements in Addis Ababa.
