The Nigeria Police Force has rescued 20 prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members who were kidnapped in Imo State, while reporting other operational successes across 10 states within the last 24 hours.
In a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, the police said the victims, who were abducted on October 1, 2026, were rescued through an intelligence-led joint operation involving the police and other security stakeholders.
The rescued victims have been taken to a health facility for medical attention, while operations are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing perpetrators, according to the police.
In Kaduna State, police operatives working with the local Civilian JTF engaged armed bandits who invaded a residence and rustled cattle, neutralising one bandit while others escaped with gunshot wounds.
The police said one AK-47 rifle, two rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition and all the rustled cattle were recovered during the operation.
In another operation in Kaduna, police operatives acting on intelligence arrested a suspected notorious cattle rustler allegedly terrorising Chikun Local Government Area and its environs.
A subsequent search of the suspect’s residence led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, the police said.
In Katsina State, police operatives responded to an armed bandit attack on commuters along the Kiryoyi–Dangani Road and engaged the attackers in a gun duel, forcing them to flee.
“One bandit was subsequently found neutralized, with one cutlass recovered beside him,” the police said.

In Nasarawa State, two suspects linked to the rustling of approximately 900 cattle in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State were arrested in collaboration with local stakeholders.
According to the police, the suspects confessed to their involvement and provided information on other members of the criminal group.
Also in Enugu State, police operatives responding to an armed robbery distress call intercepted and arrested one suspect at the scene.
The police said one locally fabricated single-barrel gun and two live cartridges were recovered from the suspect.
In Delta State, two suspects were arrested following an altercation during which two persons sustained injuries. A black pair of scissors allegedly used in the attack was recovered as an exhibit, while the victims were taken to hospital for treatment.
In another incident in Nasarawa State, police operatives arrested a suspect who allegedly stabbed his younger brother during an altercation. The case is currently being investigated by the State Criminal Investigation Department, Lafia.
In Oyo State, police operatives investigating a suspected murder case arrested a security guard and cleaner linked to the incident.
The police said operatives visited the scene and morgue and observed marks of violence on the deceased, adding that the two suspects are assisting with the investigation.
Meanwhile, detectives in Ogun State tracked and arrested a suspect who allegedly impersonated a police officer and obtained N48,000 from a member of the public under false pretences.
“Interrogation revealed that the suspect is an ex-convict who confessed to impersonating a police officer to defraud members of the public,” the police said.
The Force said the various cases remain under investigation by the respective State Criminal Investigation Departments in Owerri, Kaduna, Katsina, Lafia, Enugu, Asaba, Ibadan and Eleweran.
