Hundreds of youths have taken to the streets of Gumel, Jigawa State, to declare support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Umar Namadi ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The mobilisation, organised under the One Million-Man March movement, is the second major solidarity walk by youths in the state in less than a month, following a similar rally in Hadejia.

Waving APC flags and carrying posters of President Tinubu and Governor Namadi, the supporters marched through major streets of Gumel, calling for the re-election of both leaders.

The convener of the movement in the Gumel zone, Mubarak Aliyu, said the group believes the Tinubu administration is “gradually stabilising the economy” through its ongoing reforms.

Aliyu cited improved economic indicators, infrastructure development, agricultural support, youth empowerment and efforts to strengthen security as some of the reasons for the group’s support.

He said, “We have seen improvements in different sectors, particularly in infrastructure, agriculture, youth empowerment and security. These are some of the reasons why Jigawa youths are supporting President Tinubu.”

On Governor Namadi’s performance, Aliyu said the governor’s 12-point development agenda had produced results in areas including job creation, healthcare and empowerment.

He said the movement was “funded by Jigawa youths themselves” and was aimed at building grassroots support for the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.

According to him, the group is targeting more than two million votes for President Tinubu in Jigawa State while also backing Governor Namadi’s bid for a second term.

Another organiser, Engr. Najib Sulaiman Gwiwa, urged voters, particularly young people, to assess the policies of the present administration and participate actively in the 2027 elections.

“We are calling on young Nigerians to look at the policies and programmes of the present administration and make informed decisions. We also want youths to participate actively in the electoral process,” Gwiwa said.

The group also argued that President Tinubu’s long involvement in Nigeria’s democratic struggle, including his role in the campaign for the return to civilian rule, deserved recognition.

As political mobilisation intensifies ahead of 2027, however, the real test will be whether the large rallies translate into actual votes at polling units.

For now, the Gumel march adds to the growing political activities across Jigawa and the wider North-West as parties and support groups position themselves for the next general election.
