Recovery of the Nigerian Air Force aircraft that crashed in Igbokoda, Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, has been delayed by difficult swampy terrain and a lack of heavy-duty equipment needed to evacuate the wreckage.
The Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Abayomi Ohagwu, disclosed this on Tuesday, 24 hours after the crash, during an assessment visit to the site with senior officers of the command.
Ohagwu said security personnel and emergency responders were still recovering human remains and fragments of the aircraft from the crash site.
He said access to the location had been particularly difficult because of the surrounding creeks and mangrove forests.

According to the Commissioner, the aircraft was found shattered, with body parts and passengersβ personal belongings scattered across the waterlogged area.
He said the authorities were awaiting technical support and specialised machinery capable of lifting and evacuating the wreckage from the swamp.
Police personnel have remained at the site to support the recovery operation and secure the area.
Ohagwu commended the Marine Police Unit and the Divisional Police Officer in Igbokoda for their swift response following the crash.
The Nigerian Air Force aircraft went down near Igbokoda on Monday while reportedly on a routine operational mission.
Recovery efforts are continuing as authorities work to retrieve the wreckage and remaining human remains from the difficult terrain.
