Abia State Governor Alex Otti has mourned Squadron Leader Ahamefule Aham Man-Ugwueje, an indigene of Umuahia who was among the Nigerian Air Force personnel killed in the ATR-42 aircraft crash in Igbokoda, Ondo State.

The NAF 931 aircraft crashed on Monday, October 5, 2026, killing personnel on board.

Otti described the death of Man-Ugwueje as particularly heartbreaking, noting that the military officer had married his wife, Flight Lieutenant Damilola Adekunle, in Abuja barely two weeks before the crash.

In a condolence message, the governor said the tragedy had left the officer’s wife, family, friends and colleagues facing an “incredibly difficult” loss.

“Among those who lost their lives was an illustrious son of Abia State, Squadron Leader Ahamefule Aham Man-Ugwueje, from Umuahia,” Otti said.

“His passing is particularly heartbreaking, coming barely two weeks after he wedded his beloved wife, Flight Lieutenant Damilola Adekunle, in Abuja. Our thoughts and prayers are with her, his family, friends and colleagues at this incredibly difficult time.”

The governor extended his condolences to the bereaved families, the people of Umuahia, the Nigerian Air Force and the Federal Government.

He prayed for the repose of the deceased and strength for their loved ones to bear the loss.

“May God grant the departed eternal rest and give their loved ones the strength and fortitude to bear this painful loss,” he said.

“Rest in peace, Squadron Leader Man-Ugwueje. Rest in peace, our fallen heroes.”
