Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has flagged off the construction of 95 kilometres of roads in Tsafe Local Government Area, saying the project will improve security operations, facilitate the movement of goods and services and reconnect communities.

The project, which includes five bridges, covers the Yandoton Daji, Cediya, Doka, Yan Waren Daji, Hayin Alhaji Bedi, Unguwar Joji and Yankuzo–Tsafe roads.
The 95-kilometre project is divided into two phases.

The first, covering 47 kilometres, has been awarded to SKY Construction Company, while Setraco Construction Company Limited will execute the second phase covering 48 kilometres.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony on Sunday, Lawal said the roads pass through predominantly agricultural communities that play an important role in Zamfara’s economy.

The governor said the project was prioritised partly because of its potential to strengthen security operations in the area.

“Reconstructing this road will enhance the movement of goods and the mobility of security agencies, thereby improving operational capacity and response to threats or attacks,” he said.

Lawal said the project formed part of his administration’s wider infrastructure renewal programme, which includes the Gusau–Magami–Dansadau Road, Zurmi–Rukudawa Road and Mallamawa–Bukkuyum Road, with a spur to Masamar Mudi.

He said improved road infrastructure would not only make transportation safer but also stimulate economic activity and improve the quality of life in communities affected by insecurity and poor connectivity.

“This project aims to go beyond transportation; it seeks to stimulate economic activity, enhance security, and improve community life,” Lawal said.

The governor directed the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure to ensure rigorous supervision, quality assurance and compliance with approved engineering standards throughout the project.

He also warned contractors handling government projects to deliver value for money and infrastructure capable of standing the test of time.

“Contractors handling government projects must understand that Zamfara State expects value for money, quality craft, and infrastructure capable of withstanding the test of time,” he said.

Lawal said he expected the completed road to serve as a link between communities and contribute to the state’s economic growth and security.
