The Federal Government has released the Consolidated Non-Academic Staff Tertiary Institutions Allowance (CONTA) to non-academic staff of all federal universities, polytechnics and colleges of education, covering the period from January to August 2026.

In a statement signed by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Education, Boriowo Folasade, on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, said the payment reflects the commitment of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration to improving workers’ welfare, strengthening industrial harmony and creating an enabling environment for quality education.

Dr. Alausa said the release of CONTA “underscores the Administration’s recognition that the welfare, motivation and commitment of both academic and non-academic personnel are essential to the stability and effective functioning of tertiary institutions and, ultimately, to the development of Nigeria’s human capital.”

According to the minister, “the payment is also part of the Federal Government’s sustained efforts to address legitimate welfare concerns, promote industrial harmony and minimise disruptions to academic activities across the nation’s tertiary education system.”

The announcement follows the commencement of payment of the Consolidated Academic Tertiary Institutions Allowance (CATA) to academic staff on Monday, further demonstrating the Federal Government’s efforts to meet its obligations to personnel across the tertiary education sector.
