The presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has commended Professor Lilian Orogbu for what he described as purposeful representation and empowerment of constituents in Anambra State.
Obi made the commendation in a statement posted on his X handle, on Saturday, after attending an empowerment programme organised by Orogbu in Awka.
He said the programme, which featured the distribution of vehicles, tricycles, motorcycles, refrigerators, grinding machines and other productive assets, demonstrated how elected representatives could directly improve the livelihoods of their constituents.
According to Obi, the items were not merely gifts but tools for creating livelihoods, strengthening families and promoting self-reliance.

“What I saw was remarkable: vehicles, tricycles, motorcycles, refrigerators, grinding machines, and other productive assets being distributed to constituents – not merely as gifts, but as tools for creating livelihoods, strengthening families, and promoting self-reliance,” he said.
Obi said Orogbu had consistently demonstrated that public office should be centred on service to the people, citing her interventions in education, infrastructure, scholarships and human development.
“Prof. Orogbu has consistently demonstrated that public office should be about service,” Obi said.
He said his engagements with Orogbu had mostly involved projects with direct benefits for constituents, including school commissioning, road inspections, scholarship initiatives and other development programmes.
“Whenever she invites me to an event, it is almost invariably to commission a school, inspect a road, support a scholarship initiative, or participate in a project that directly benefits the people,” he said.
The NDC presidential candidate also suggested that Orogbu could achieve greater impact with more experience and responsibility in the National Assembly.
“As I said yesterday, if she has achieved this much as a first-term legislator, one can only imagine what even greater impact she can make with more experience and responsibility in the National Assembly,” Obi said.
He commended Orogbu for her “courage, commitment and compassion” and praised the people of Awka North and South Federal Constituency for supporting her.
Obi said the example showed that leadership should be measured by service and tangible impact rather than personal benefits.
“Nigeria will progress when public office becomes less about what leaders receive and more about what they give back to the people,” he said.
