Senior Iranian official Ali Akbar Velayati has dismissed threats by US President Donald Trump to impose famine on Iran, saying the country remains in control of critical economic routes.
Speaking to media outlets cited by Sputnik, Velayati said Trump’s remarks “demonstrate a lack of understanding of the global economic and political situation”.
He added that global food security and fertiliser supply chains linked to the Strait of Hormuz are “under Iran’s control”, warning that “whoever tampers with the world’s lifeline will find themselves in a predicament”.
Velayati also pointed to what he described as signs of declining US influence, citing troop withdrawals from Europe, challenges within NATO, and technical issues affecting US naval forces.
Separately, Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei said recent developments following the war involving the United States and Israel would shape a new regional and global order.
In a message marking “National Persian Gulf Day”, he said Iran’s policies and strategy had led to a series of victories that would form the basis of future geopolitical shifts.
