Iran says any US intervention in Hormoz Strait would breach ceasefire

A senior Iranian official on Monday warned that Tehran would treat any US attempt to intervene in the Strait of Hormuz as a violation of the ceasefire, following an announcement by US President Donald Trump of an operation to escort ships stranded in the strategic waterway.

Ebrahim Azizi, head of the Iranian parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, said on X that “any US intervention in the new maritime regime of the Strait of Hormuz will be considered a violation of the ceasefire.”

These remarks followed Trump’s Sunday announcement that the US would assist to free up vessels stranded within the Strait of Hormuz out of restricted waters, noting that the operation would begin on Monday.
