“President Bola Tinubu Must Win The 2027 Election. Obi, Atiku, Amaechi Have Failed This Country In The Past” – Edo State Governor, Okpebholo Says

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has thrown his full weight behind President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027. In a fresh interview that is now making rounds on social media, Okpebholo said President Tinubu “must win” the next election.…....

He declared that former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, Peoples Democratic Party leader Atiku Abubakar, and former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi have all “failed this country in the past.”

The governor went further, stating that Tinubu’s government has done better than the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo. Okpebholo, who took office last year as an All Progressives Congress (APC) governor, has been one of Tinubu’s strongest backers in the South-South.

He has repeatedly promised to deliver over two million votes for the president in Edo State and even said he would resign as governor if Tinubu fails to win the state in 2027.

Speaking about the 2023 election, the governor noted that Peter Obi won Edo then only because the previous governor was not performing. “But now things are different,” he added. “The people will thank Tinubu with their votes because of the work we are doing.”

Political watchers say Okpebholo’s comments show the APC is already gearing up early for the 2027 polls. Opposition parties have not yet responded to the latest remarks.
