The Chief Executive Officer of TMT Travels and Tours, Ifeanyi Onukwubiri, is reportedly appearing in court amid allegations that he defrauded more than 200 Nigerians in connection with visa processing transactions.
The development follows months of complaints from individuals who claimed they paid substantial amounts of money to the travel agency for visa-related services but allegedly failed to receive the promised visas or refunds.
Reports indicate that more than 200 alleged victims have come forward with complaints against the TMT boss. Some of them reportedly accused the company of collecting millions of naira for different visa applications while allegedly failing to deliver the services promised.
The controversy gained wider attention after social media activist VeryDarkMan became involved in the matter and highlighted the complaints of several alleged victims. Reports also indicate that Onukwubiri was subsequently arrested by the police following petitions from individuals who claimed to have lost money through the visa transactions.
Some alleged victims have shared accounts of paying between N1.5 million and several million naira for foreign work or travel visas. In some cases, they also alleged that their passports were retained while they waited for the promised documents.
One previously reported case involved an Abia-based truck driver who said he sold his vehicle and paid N1.5 million towards a New Zealand visa. He alleged that months later, he had neither received the visa nor recovered his money.
The allegations have generated significant public interest, with several Nigerians calling for a thorough investigation into the complaints.
However, the allegations remain subject to legal proceedings, and Onukwubiri is entitled to defend himself against the claims brought before the court.
The court proceedings are expected to shed more light on the allegations and determine the next steps in the case.
