“Tinubu’s Reforms Are Working, Insecurity Is Reducing” – Akpabio Says Nigerians Can Sleep Well

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has said President Bola Tinubu’s reforms are working, while claiming that insecurity is abating and Nigerians are now able to sleep well.

Akpabio made the statement on October 2 after leading a delegation of the National Assembly to Tinubu’s residence in Ikoyi, Lagos, to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.

Speaking with journalists after the visit, the Senate President said the National Assembly would continue to support Tinubu’s reform agenda, particularly in the areas of the economy and security.

“We believe he’s doing well. These reforms are working and, as far as we are concerned, insecurities are abating and people are able to sleep well,” Akpabio said.

He, however, acknowledged that there were still “pockets of discontent”, which he partly linked to the approaching election period.

Akpabio also highlighted the administration’s tax reforms, saying the National Assembly had worked with the executive to overhaul long-standing laws.

“You’ve seen the reform in the tax system, with four major tax laws brought into the country at one time,” he said.

The Senate President described the National Assembly as a “worthy partner” of the Tinubu administration and pledged continued legislative support for policies aimed at changing the country’s economic trajectory.

He also called on Nigerians to embrace unity, saying the country’s survival as one nation 66 years after independence demonstrated its resilience.

Tinubu, in his October 1 Independence Day address, also defended his administration’s economic reforms, saying they had begun to improve Nigeria’s economic outlook while acknowledging that many families still face financial difficultie
