At least three people, including two security personnel and a foreign national, have been killed in a suspected Lakurawa attack on the Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway construction site in Kebbi State.
Two other civilians sustained gunshot injuries in the attack at Gubba Village, in Andarai District of Maiyama Local Government Area.
The Kebbi State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, says the attackers were suspected to have come from the Kebbe axis of neighbouring Sokoto State.
He says the injured victims were evacuated for medical treatment, while joint security forces responded to the incident.
According to the police spokesperson, military personnel neutralised scores of the suspected attackers and recovered several motorcycles during the operation.
Additional security personnel have been deployed to the affected areas, while surveillance has been intensified to prevent further attacks.
Construction activities at the affected site have been suspended as security operations continue.
The police have urged workers to remain calm, assuring them that efforts are underway to protect lives and property and restore normalcy.
Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, had recently visited Jandutsi and neighbouring communities bordering Gubba Village to sympathise with residents over recent bandit attacks and reaffirm his administration’s commitment to strengthening security.
