“Nothing! Not One Single Thing!” – Wike Challenges Amaechi To Show What He Achieved After 24 Years In Power

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has challenged former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi to identify tangible development and political empowerment he attracted to Evo Kingdom and Rivers State during his 24 years in top public offices.

Wike spoke on October 2 during an interactive session with leaders and stakeholders of Evo Kingdom in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Amaechi served as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly for eight years, governor for eight years and Minister of Transportation for another eight years.

“Someone was Speaker of the House of Assembly for eight years, Governor for eight years, and Minister for eight years, that is 24 years in top leadership positions!” Wike said.

“What can anybody point to that he attracted to Evo Kingdom or Rivers State in all those 24 years? Nothing! Not one single thing!”

Wike contrasted this with his own time as Minister of State for Education, saying he could identify projects he brought to Rivers State.

“I was a Minister of State for Education, and as I sit here, I can count the projects I brought to Rivers State and my people,” he said.

He also criticised political leaders who, according to him, fail to empower members of their communities or groom new leaders after attaining influential positions.

Wike argued that political leadership should extend beyond holding office and should include creating opportunities for others to rise.

His comments came amid renewed political exchanges between the two former Rivers State political allies, who have taken different positions ahead of the 2027 elections. Amaechi, meanwhile, challenged the Tinubu administration on October 2 to name major projects it had completed.
