Nigerian comedian, Ayodeji Richard Makun, popularly known as AY, has apologised to ticket holders who attended his show in Cardiff, Wales, after unresolved payment commitments delayed his appearance and led most of the audience to leave before he arrived at the hall.
In a post shared via X on Monday, Makun, in a statement titled “A Statement on AY Live Cardiff,” said he regretted the disappointment experienced by fans who bought tickets and attended the event.
“Your time, money and support deserve respect,” he said.
Makun explained that he and other comedians travelled to Cardiff to perform and eventually arrived at the venue, but unresolved payment commitments delayed their appearance.
“Unfortunately, unresolved payment commitments delayed our appearance, and by the time we arrived at the hall, most of the audience had left,” he said.
He acknowledged that attendees deserved better organisation and timely communication, adding,
“You should never have been caught in the middle of a payment dispute.”
The comedian urged the public to listen to his full explanation before drawing conclusions about the incident.
He also called on the event organisers and the UK tour management to provide a clear resolution for ticket holders, including information on refunds.
“Verified updates will be shared through my official channels,” the statement added.
The apology follows complaints circulating on social media from people who said they waited for hours at the event without seeing the comedian. One attendee, in a comment displayed in a circulating video and attributed to Instagram user @chiomachichinwanyiboma, wrote: “We were very disappointed tonight. We got there at 5pm, they were playing nonsense music all through and kept saying AY is in the building. We were scammed.”
The commenter further alleged that some attendees became angry and a fight broke out before people left the venue.
Makun said his upcoming shows in Birmingham on October 30, London on October 31, and Manchester on November 1 remained scheduled.
“These shows remain scheduled, and we look forward to welcoming you,” he said.
