“It Is Not Your Business What They Pay Nigerian Actors”- Kanayo O. Kanayo Warns Ghanaian Actors

  • Kanayo O. Kanayo, a veteran Nollywood actor, visited Accra, Ghana for a movie production.
  • He advised Ghanaian actors to negotiate their earnings based on personal experience, reputation, and value.
  • He emphasized the importance of not comparing their fees with those of Nigerian actors.

Veteran Nollywood actor Kanayo O. Kanayo has urged Ghanaian actors to negotiate their earnings based on their individual experience, reputation and value rather than comparing their fees with those of Nigerian actors.

The actor made the remark during a recent visit to Accra, Ghana, where he travelled for a movie production featuring both Nigerian and Ghanaian actors.

Kanayo explained that he had observed instances where some Ghanaian actors expected to receive the same payment as their Nigerian counterparts simply because they were working on the same production.

According to the veteran actor, remuneration in the entertainment industry is influenced by several factors, including an actor’s experience, popularity, career achievements and market value.

He stressed that performers should understand their individual worth and negotiate accordingly instead of measuring their earnings against those of more established actors.

Speaking on the issue, Kanayo said: “I am KOK. I was among the founding fathers. You now wake up in Ghana… They call KOK to come and act in Ghana; you Ghanaian boy, will now insist they pay you the same fees as me.

“It happens even up to today. There is hierarchy even in heaven. In the movie industry, there is hierarchy. Negotiate what you want to be paid. Don’t equate yourself with me.

“Tell your Ghanaian brothers and sisters, it is not your business what they pay Nigerian actors. Go and negotiate your own, receive it and go and rest, and then you will have peace in your life; otherwise, I will invoke Amadioha.”

Kanayo’s comments have sparked discussion about how actors determine their worth and negotiate professional fees across the Nigerian and Ghanaian entertainment industries.
