Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) must remain the dominant political force in the state.
Aiyedatiwa made the comment during an interview on Monday while speaking about his political affiliation, the 2027 election and the ongoing political alliances in the country.
The governor said he had no problem with the formation of the coalition being led by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, noting that individuals and groups have the freedom to associate politically.
He, however, maintained that his political loyalty in Ondo State remains firmly with the APC.
“I’m an APC member, APC Governor; everything politics in Ondo State must be APC. I’m a progressive. Even when I was joining politics in 2010, Labour Party was in government in Ondo State, Mimiko. I did not join Labour Party. PDP had just been dislodged still very strong in Ondo at the time, I did not join. I joined ACN. Progressive. That is the political philosophy I believe in,” Aiyedatiwa said.
He also said his relationship with Wike remains cordial despite their different political affiliations. According to Aiyedatiwa, Wike supported him during his governorship election despite being a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The governor also said Ondo State, which is controlled by the APC, would support President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term in 2027. He described the various support groups and political alliances backing Tinubu as part of the normal political process.
Aiyedatiwa’s comments have, however, sparked reactions online, with some Nigerians questioning the implication of saying that all politics in Ondo State must be under one political party.
