The Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, CON, has pledged to mobilise 10 million votes from Nigeria’s education sector for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election in the 2027 presidential election.

Alausa made the pledge on Tuesday at the inaugural meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Committee Education Sector Mobilisation Working Group, where he called for a nationwide campaign to secure support for the President among students, teachers, lecturers and other education stakeholders.

The minister said the education sector, with its extensive network across the country, was strategically positioned to deliver a significant bloc of votes for Tinubu.

“If we work hard, we should be able to mobilise 10 million votes from the education sector alone for Mr President,” Alausa said.

He urged members of the working group to take the campaign beyond educational institutions and engage communities across the country.

The minister said continuity in government was necessary to consolidate the reforms of the Tinubu administration, particularly those targeted at economic growth, investment and human capital development.

“Nigeria needs continuity. This country, this President, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has changed the fortunes of Nigeria,” he said.

“It is in our interest, and in the interest of the present and future generations, that we elect him to continue the transformative agenda he has embarked upon in the last three years.”

Alausa said the reforms being implemented by the administration required sustained implementation to produce lasting results.

He argued that a second term for Tinubu would provide an opportunity to consolidate existing gains, strengthen the economy, attract investment and create greater opportunities for Nigerians.

The minister also linked the education sector’s mobilisation effort to the administration’s human capital development agenda, saying education stakeholders had a responsibility to support policies aimed at improving Nigeria’s long-term economic prospects.

He charged members of the working group to engage their various constituencies and build broad-based support for the President ahead of the 2027 election.

The committee has created sub-groups covering universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, teachers, governing councils, TVET, counsellors and other key stakeholder groups.

Presidential appointees within the education sector are expected to work with the core working group and the sub-groups to coordinate the mobilisation campaign nationwide.

Alausa said achieving the 10-million-vote target would require sustained engagement and collective effort across the education sector.

He reaffirmed his commitment to Tinubu’s re-election, saying he would personally drive the sector’s campaign and work with established structures to pursue the target.
