US President Donald Trump has said he cancelled planned strikes against Iran after claiming that a possible agreement with Tehran could be reached “rapidly”. The announcement came amid rising tensions between the two countries and reports that Washington was preparing a major military operation against Iran.
In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump said he had decided to “cancel the attack” if Iran agreed to a deal that would include the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and an end to what he called Iran’s nuclear threat.
The US president said the decision was taken in coordination with Israel. He also claimed that Iran and several Middle Eastern countries had requested him to delay military action to allow negotiations to continue.

Trump said the US military was “locked and loaded” and ready to launch an attack on Iran with a level of force “not seen since World War II”. However, he said he agreed to hold back after discussions about a potential deal.
He suggested that progress had been made, stating that the “parameters of a deal” had been agreed upon. According to Trump, the agreement would involve the “immediate, complete, and total opening” of the Strait of Hormuz and addressing concerns over Iran’s nuclear programme.
Iran has not yet officially responded to Trump’s announcement.
The development came after reports that the US was considering one of its largest military campaigns against Iran, including possible attacks on energy infrastructure. Sources told US media that the issue was discussed during Trump’s cabinet meeting.
