The Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) has strengthened its collaboration with the United States to combat illicit financial flows, drug trafficking, cyber-enabled crime and other forms of transnational organised crime.

The move followed a meeting between the NFIU and a delegation from the U.S. Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) at the U.S. Mission in Nigeria, led by Deputy Director Douglas Grane and U.S. Senior Cybercrime Advisor Chris Riley.

According to the NFIU, discussions centred on improving intelligence sharing, enhancing cyber-enabled financial investigations, building institutional capacity and disrupting criminal networks that exploit technology and the global financial system.

The agency said both countries reaffirmed their commitment to closer cooperation as criminal threats become increasingly sophisticated and transnational.

The NFIU added that the partnership aims to safeguard the integrity of both countries’ financial systems while contributing to regional and global security efforts.
