The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a self-acclaimed spiritualist, Odigie Moses, in Edo State over an alleged $1,100 sextortion case.

The EFCC disclosed this in a statement posted on its official X handle on Friday, saying the suspect was arrested in Ekpoma, Edo State.

According to the commission, Moses allegedly posed on Zelle, a social media platform, as someone with spiritual healing powers before being contacted by an Indian woman seeking spiritual intervention for what she described as life-threatening challenges.

The suspect allegedly deceived the woman into taking part in a naked spiritual bath, which he recorded live without her consent.

The EFCC said Moses subsequently threatened to release the video to the public unless the victim paid him money.

“Investigation by the EFCC revealed that the victim had to pay the sum of $1,100 to the suspect in order to prevail on him not to release her nudity to the public,” the commission said.

The anti-graft agency said the suspect would be charged to court after the completion of investigations.

The EFCC described the case as alleged sextortion, adding that its investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident was ongoing.
