A 38-year-old man was taken into custody near US President Donald Trump’s golf course in California after he was allegedly found photographing security arrangements ahead of the President’s scheduled visit. Investigators later recovered multiple weapons, body armour and notebooks containing ‘concerning statements’ during a search of his residence.
Arrest made ahead of Trump’s scheduled visit
The suspect, identified as Jeanine John Taele, was arrested at Trump National Golf Course in Rancho Palos Verdes just two days before President Trump was expected to attend a Republican National Committee fundraising event at the venue.
Allegedly captured images of security preparations
According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, deputies noticed Taele taking photographs and recording videos of security measures around the golf course before they approached and detained him.
Loaded firearm seized during arrest
During the arrest, officers recovered a loaded handgun from Taele’s vehicle. They also found a 16-round ammunition magazine in his pocket.

Search of residence reveals weapons cache
A day after the arrest, investigators searched Taele’s home in Downey, where they recovered several firearms, ammunition, magazines and body armour.
Authorities also seized notebooks containing what they described as ‘concerning statements.’
Faces multiple criminal charges
Taele has been booked on several felony charges, including second-degree robbery, possession of a large-capacity magazine and possession of a short-barrelled rifle or shotgun.
He has also been charged with a misdemeanour offence for allegedly carrying a concealed firearm inside a vehicle. Court records show he has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Linked to earlier robbery investigation
Law enforcement officials said Taele was already under investigation by the El Segundo Police Department in connection with a separate robbery case before his arrest near Trump’s golf course.

Authorities say no credible threat exists
Following the arrest, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said there is ‘no credible threat to our communities.’
The incident comes amid heightened security surrounding President Trump, following the conviction in 2025 of a man accused of attempting to assassinate him at his Florida golf club.
