Video: Osun CP Booed, Accused Of Partisanship At INEC Stakeholders Meeting

Members and supporters of the Accord Party in Osun State on Wednesday booed the State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, accusing him of partisanship ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

The incident occurred during a stakeholdersโ€™ meeting organised by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Osogbo.

A video obtained by HERALDSUN showed the incident happened while CP Gotan was delivering his address at the meeting.

In the video, party members were seen shouting and booing the Commissioner, forcing a brief pause in his presentation.

HERALDSUN reports that chieftains and members of the Accord Party have at different fora alleged that Gotan is sympathetic to the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC.

They expressed doubt over his ability to remain neutral in providing security for the election.

The meeting was attended by the INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, who briefed political parties on the Commissionโ€™s preparations for the poll.

Representatives of other political parties, security agencies and civil society organisations were also present.

Officials of INEC and other stakeholders intervened and appealed to the Accord Party members to allow the meeting to continue. After a few minutes, normalcy was restored, and the programme proceeded.

Addressing the gathering, Prof. Amupitan urged all political parties to conduct themselves peacefully and to have confidence in the electoral process.

He reiterated INECโ€™s commitment to delivering a credible, free and fair governorship election in Osun.

As at the time of filing this report, the Osun State Police Command had not issued an official response to the allegations. The Command had earlier declared its readiness to provide adequate security before, during and after the August 15 election.
