The United States carried out fresh military strikes on targets inside Iran on Wednesday, marking its first attacks on Iranian territory in nearly a week. The action followed Iran’s reported attacks on US military bases in Jordan, further escalating tensions across the Middle East.
According to the US Central Command, the strikes began at 8 pm local time (0000 GMT) and were launched in response to what it described as Iran’s attempted attacks on American forces stationed in the region.
In a statement, the command said, “The strikes are a powerful response to yesterday’s attempted Iranian attacks on US forces based in the Middle East.”
The latest military action comes as Washington and Tehran continue exchanging threats and attacks, raising fears of a wider regional conflict.
Trump Warned Iran of a Tough Response
Hours before the strikes, US President Donald Trump said America would respond forcefully to Iran’s actions.
Speaking to Fox News, Trump said, “We’re going to beat the f*ing st of them. We’ll be hitting them hard. They are going to get a beating.”
Iran Claims Retaliatory Operations
Following the US strikes, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) announced that it had carried out military operations targeting American assets in Jordan.
The IRGC claimed it struck both an airbase and a military command centre. Iranian officials also said that Tehran would continue its resistance as long as what it described as American threats persist.
The Iranian agency further urged US officials to stop using threatening language against the Islamic Republic.

IRGC Navy Targets Oil Tankers
Separately, the naval wing of the IRGC claimed it targeted three oil tankers that were attempting to approach the Strait of Hormuz using a route that Iran said had not been approved.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most important oil shipping routes, and any disruption in the area could have significant implications for global energy markets.

Tensions Continue to Rise
The exchange of military action between the US and Iran signals another sharp escalation in their long-running confrontation. With both sides warning of further action, concerns are growing that the conflict could spread further across the Middle East if diplomatic efforts fail.
