Residents of Jaleyemi area in Osogbo, Osun State, were thrown into confusion on Thursday, after the swollen body of a young lady was discovered in her room.
The deceased, identified as Kemisola, an indigene of Igbajo town in Boluwaduro Local Government Area, was found dead by a neighbour on Thursday morning.
According to residents, Kemisola, a hair stylist who lived in a storey building, may have committed suicide on Monday with her decomposing body discovered after a strong, strange odour began filling the building.
A neighbour, speaking on condition of anonymity, said he first noticed the odour on Tuesday evening, adding that he assumed tje the odour was from a dead rat.
“This morning, I saw that her apartment door was open and I called out to greet her, but she didn’t respond,” the neighbour said.
“That was when I decided to check on her, and I was shocked to find her decomposing body lying on the bed. I don’t even know her full name. We only exchanged greetings and occasional chats as neighbours.”
When journalists visited the house, Kemisola’s phone was seen close to her head, while a knife and a bottle containing an unknown substance were also discovered at the scene.
Another resident, Omolara, described Kemisola as a jovial person and said she saw her on Monday evening when she returned home.

Omolara explained that neighbours may not have realised Kemisola was in the house because she had moved in with her maternal uncle three months earlier and only visited the apartment occasionally.
“Kemisola was like a younger sister to me. She was a lovely person. When she came back on Monday, she greeted me and went inside. I was surprised this morning to hear about her death.
“She left this area to stay with her mother’s younger brother three months ago and only comes here once in a while. Her neighbour might not have even known she was inside until the odour started,” Omolara said.
Kemisola’s brother, who declined to give his name, said she stopped by his shop on Monday while coming from Igbajo to deliver a message.
“She branched at my shop on her way from Igbajo on Monday to deliver a message and said she would come back at a later date. This is so sad, and I believe there is more to this,” he said.
The body was later evacuated from the room in the presence of officers from the Osun State Police Command.
When contacted, the state police spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, said the command has begun a probe into the incident.
Ojelabi added that, “there was no mark of violence on the deceased’s body.”
