Security forces have arrested three suspected bandits and recovered weapons and ammunition during an operation in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The development was contained in a post shared on X on Friday by security analyst, Zagazola Makama.
According to the post, the suspects were arrested around 10:00 a.m. on April 29 along the Tangaza-Gidan Madi road following intelligence reports about a planned attack in the area.
“The suspects were identified as Aliyu Bello, 30; Dahiru Umar, 25; and Bashar Isah, 29, all said to be from Kwazari village in Kware Local Government Area,” he added
They were reportedly intercepted while riding on a motorcycle and were suspected to be part of a criminal group involved in kidnapping and collecting illegal levies from communities.
“Items recovered from them include a locally made AK-47 rifle, a magazine loaded with 17 rounds of ammunition, two Dane guns, two cartridges, and some charms,” Makama added.
The suspects were said to have hidden the weapons inside a sack placed in another bag in an attempt to avoid detection.
Security sources added that investigations are ongoing to track other members of the group and prevent further attacks in the area.
