The Labour Party (LP) has released its timetable for the 2026 primary elections ahead of the 2027 general polls, setting its presidential nomination at ₦50 million.
In a statement issued on Monday in Abuja, Ken Asogwa, the party’s national publicity secretary said the schedule aligns with the 1999 Constitution, the electoral act 2026, and guidelines by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
According to the timetable, the sale of nomination forms will run from May 6 to May 16, while submission of completed forms is scheduled for May 17 and May 18.
Screening of aspirants for state assembly and governorship positions will take place on May 20, followed by that of National Assembly and presidential aspirants on May 22.
Results are expected on May 23, while appeals will be heard between May 24 and May 25.
The final list of cleared candidates will be published on May 26.
Party primaries for state assembly and governorship positions are fixed for May 27, while those for National Assembly and presidential tickets will hold on May 29.
Asogwa outlined the fee structure for aspirants, stating that the presidential ticket requires ₦10 million for the expression of interest form and ₦40 million for the nomination form, totalling ₦50 million.
Governorship aspirants will pay ₦25 million, while senatorial, House of Representatives, and state assembly tickets are pegged at ₦10 million, ₦5 million and ₦3 million respectively.
He disclosed that the party’s National Working Committee had approved a waiver for Alex Otti, granting him a free governorship form.
The LP spokesperson added that female aspirants, persons with disabilities, and youths aged 25 to 30 would only be required to pay for expression of interest forms across all positions.
He further urged prospective aspirants to complete their membership registration within the stipulated period, noting that the exercise was necessary for compliance with electoral requirements and submission of the party register to INEC.
