Dr. Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, has withdrawn from the 2027 Lagos State governorship race.
He has also expressed support for the endorsement of the incumbent deputy governor, Dr. Kadiri Hamzat by President Bola Tinubu.
In a statement yesterday, Adediran said his decision followed consultations and a careful assessment of the political realities within the All Progressives Congress (APC). He stressed that party unity must take precedence over personal ambition.
His words: “A few days ago, I took a decisive step by procuring the Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms, driven by conviction and a genuine desire to contribute to the progress of our state.
“However, leadership also demands the capacity to make difficult but necessary decisions that prioritise collective interest above personal ambition.”
He noted that Hamzat’s endorsement by Tinubu and other party leaders in Lagos significantly shaped his decision to step down from the race.
“Following the endorsement of Dr. Kadiri Hamzat by our Leader, the President of Nigeria and leaders of our party in Lagos, I have decided to withdraw from the 2027 Lagos State gubernatorial race,” he said.
He emphasised that his withdrawal was not borne out of weakness or a lack of capacity, but rather a demonstration of strength, discipline and a deep respect for party cohesion and unity.”
Reaffirming his loyalty, Adediran pledged continued commitment to the APC and expressed unwavering support for Tinubu. He described the president’s leadership as central to the stability of both the party and the country.
“I hereby fully align myself with the position and direction of Mr. President regarding the Lagos State gubernatorial process. Party supremacy and strategic alignment are critical,” he stated.
The former aspirant also addressed members of the Lagos4Lagos Movement, a political platform he leads, urging them to rally behind the party’s direction.
“This movement has never been about one individual; it has always been about a cause; equity, inclusion and a better Lagos for all. That cause remains alive,” he said.
He assured his supporters that his decision marked part of a larger journey of service, adding that he remains committed to the development of Lagos State and the success of the ruling party.
