The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two men in connection with the murder of three members of the same family, whose bodies were discovered buried in a shallow grave in Ukpor, Nnewi South Local Government Area.
The suspects, Emmanuel Nnabueze Nnakezie, 33, and Clement Nnaekezie, 69, were apprehended on May 3, 2026, by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu, following an investigation into the sudden disappearance of the victims.
According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the operatives acted on credible intelligence and tracked the suspects to separate locations in Oba and Ukpor. During interrogation, both men allegedly confessed to the crime and led police to the burial site.
The victims have been identified as Robert Nnakezie, 67; Ikechukwu Obi, 14; and two-year-old Ukamaka Efione, who was visiting during the school holidays. Their remains have been exhumed and deposited at a morgue for autopsy.
Preliminary investigations suggest the killings may have stemmed from a dispute over the ownership of a bitter kola tree and other inherited land parcels.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, condemned the act as “baric and unacceptable,” assuring that the Command would ensure justice is served.
The case remains under investigation.
