A mother in Effurun, Delta State, is crying out in deep pain after Nigerian police allegedly killed her second son. The 28-year-old man, Mene Ogidi (also known as Oghenemine Ogidi or musician OG Millan), was shot dead on April 26, 2026.…....
In a heartbreaking video that went viral, Ogidi sat on the ground with his hands tied. He begged the officers for his life. “Abeg, I no know anything concerning am. I go carry you go meet am. E dey Sapele,” he said. He told them someone sent him to pick up a parcel at a motor park. The parcel later turned out to have a pistol and bullets inside. But he offered to take the police to the person who sent him. Instead, Assistant Superintendent of Police Nuhu Usman shot him at close range. Ogidi slumped and died.
His mother could not hold back her tears when she spoke. “What exactly did I do to Nigerian police? It is the Nigerian police that killed my first son; now they have killed the second one. I heard from the video where my son was saying, ‘It’s someone that sent him; let him take them to that person,’” she cried. She said her first son was arrested from their home in 2022 and killed by police in a similar way. Many people now question if her family is being targeted.
The Delta State Police Command quickly arrested ASP Nuhu Usman. The Inspector-General of Police, Rilwan Olutunji Disu, ordered his dismissal and the dismissal of other officers involved. They will face criminal prosecution for unlawful killing. The IGP called the shooting “criminal, unprofessional and completely unacceptable” and promised the family that justice would be done.
The video has sparked anger across Nigeria. Many are calling for an end to police brutality. Youths visited the mother to comfort her, and people online are demanding real change so no family suffers this pain again.
