A former chairman of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, has reacted to the Supreme Court decision confirming the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Hayatu-Deen, who has signalled interest in contesting the presidential candidacy on the platform of the ADC, said it is time for party members to unite and focus on national development.
In a statement issued by his media office, Hayatu-Deen said the ruling by the Supreme Court of Nigeria, which upheld David Mark as National Chairman and Rauf Aregbesola as National Secretary, reinforces the importance of due process in sustaining democracy.
He described the judgment as a strong endorsement of the rule of law and said democratic institutions can only remain credible when rules are followed and processes remain transparent.
According to him, internal party systems must be protected from interference, as they play a key role in strengthening Nigeria’s democratic space.
Hayatu-Deen, however, said the significance of the ruling goes beyond legal interpretation, noting that Nigerians are currently facing serious challenges.
He pointed to rising living costs, ongoing insecurity caused by banditry and kidnappings, and limited economic opportunities for young people.
He said the ADC must now use the stability created by the court decision to develop a clear plan that addresses security, job creation and the cost of living.
“The priority should be improving the daily lives of Nigerians,” he said, stressing the need for practical results rather than political rhetoric.
Hayatu-Deen also congratulated Mark and Aregbesola on the court’s decision and called on party leaders and members to rally around a shared vision focused on competence, inclusiveness and effective governance.
He added that unity within the party would be key to presenting a strong national alternative and delivering meaningful progress for citizens.
